Day 17 - Intentional Blessings for the Classroom

Day 17

(For Tuesday, March 27th)

Once while I was leaving the bank, I found a wallet on the ground and felt so hurt for the young man that left it. I wasn’t sure what to do with it, but as others passed by, I asked for advice and one woman thought I should take it to the police station and I did. If you’ve ever lost yours, you know how complicated it can be to replace everything. The expression I always heard when I was growing up was, “Well, you’ve done your good deed for the day!” I wonder how many of our students have even heard that expression.

A verse to ponder

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

An intentional blessing for the classroom

Let’s proclaim today, “Good Deed Day.” Tell your students about a time that you helped someone. Ask them if they have ever helped someone else. Set the challenge today to be on the look out to do a good deed and introduce (or remind them) of the old expression, “You’ve done your good deed for the day!” Look for a colleague who has done something particularly nice and tell them that they’ve done their good deed for the day. Hopefully, it will be contagious.

A focus of reflection

Can you do good deeds in school? Is it legal? Of course! Promoting good deeds may be one of the most important moves toward a culture of kindness on any campus.  As you read the verse above, reflect on the goodness of our God and the endless good deeds He has performed for us on a daily basis. May God give you His goodness to pass onto those He sets in your path today.
