Day 16
(For Thursday, March 29th - Sorry I posted it late!)
Have you ever felt like you are on a hamster wheel during the school day? We go round and round and round in our classes with activities, events, interruptions and of course learning. The most precious little slice of the day is lunch when we can stop the spinning and catch our breath (even it it’s only 20 minutes by the time we walk the kids to the cafeteria!) Today, let’s sacrifice our personal time as an intentional act of goodness.
A verse to ponder
So Jehoiachin put aside his prison clothes and for the rest of his life ate regularly at the king’s table. Day by day the king of Babylon gave Jehoiachin a regular allowance as long as he lived, till the day of his death.
An intentional blessing for the classroom
Lunchtime is a big deal in school. It is rare that teachers eat with the students, but today let’s invite a student (or students) to lunch “just because.” Consider inviting the student/s who don’t deserve it or who would never ask. Give them a heads up (if it can’t be today) when and where they should meet you and ask them to come dine with you for the day. If you are really brave, eat in the cafeteria with them for an experience you will never forget.
A focus of reflection
Can you eat with the students? Is it legal? Of course! In fact, many teachers had no choice years ago. Before you eat with a student or students, make sure you are in a public place where anyone can see you or have access to you. It is never wisdom to be alone with a student, but always wisdom to treat them like royalty “just because.” May God bless your conversations today with words of goodness and encouragement.
