Day 26 - 40 Days of Intentional Joy

Day 26

What’s in a name? In generations before us, children’s names had meaning. When a child was born the name bestowed upon them was chosen to give the child a sense of who they were going to be. In the 21st century, choosing a name for the child is not quite as formal, but no less important.  There’s power in a name. Today we are going to ask the students about their family names.

A verse to ponder

Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.

An intentional joy for the classroom

There’s power in a name. Ask the students what their last name means.  If they don’t know encourage them to speak to their family members tonight to find out what their family name means. Google it. Today, call each of your students by their family name, Mr. Forsythe, Miss Seddon, Miss Gonzalez, to emphasize the importance and uniqueness of a name. Make tabletop nameplates so that the others students learn their classmates last names. Teach them to respect and honor each other’s good name.

A focus of reflection

Have you thought about how important it is to preserve the reputation of your good name? Students won’t remember us for what we taught them, but for how we treated them. As Christians, we carry His name and need to guard the reputation of His good name. Lord, help us to honor Your good name while being joyful in our classroom and in our families.

(Mr. Forsythe ate lunch in the cafeteria and wished there was an emoticon that showed stars rolling around his head! What a sacrifice. Great job.)

Prayerfully yours,
K
